| In the first decades of the 20th century, self-loading carbines chambered for pistol cartridges were part of the product range of numerous manufacturers. These were often pistols fitted with a longer barrel and a detachable shoulder stock, in other words variants of an existing model. Independent designs remained the exception. One of these exceptions is the Dreyse M 07 Hunting Carbine made by the Rheinische Metallwaaren- und Maschinenfabrik, Sömmerda Division, which was offered from 1910 onwards. It shares individual design elements with the Dreyse M1907, but not its overall concept. In the 1910 mail-order catalogue of August Stukenbrok, it was advertised as a close-season gun and a weapon for self-defence. The carbine fires the 7.65mm Browning pistol cartridge; the detachable, double-stack magazine is inserted from below into the receiver in front of the trigger guard. The carbine evidently did not achieve wide distribution and today appears only occasionally on the market and at auctions. The carbine is a recoil-operated weapon with an unlocked blowback action and striker ignition. A release catch on the left side allows the receiver to be tipped open and the bolt to be removed. The sights are fixed; the rear sight can only be adjusted for windage by drifting it sideways. The butt stock and fore-end are made of walnut, with a checkered pistol grip. The metal parts are blued, while the top of the bolt is left in the white. Several variants of the marking on the left side of the receiver are known: "DREYSE" only; three lines without a date, "DREYSE / Rheinische Metallwaaren- & Maschinenfabrik / Abt. Sömmerda"; three lines with a date, "DREYSE 1907 / Rheinische Metallwaaren- & Maschinenfabrik / Abt. Sömmerda"; and "Rheinmetall" only.
