Description:
Swiss 1896/11 Infantry Rifle, produced in 1908, in very good condition with 93% finish. 4/5 Bore (lightly worn rifling, light pitting throughout bore). 4/5 Stock. Stock unable to confirm serial number. Handguard non-matching serial number (s/n 68948, from a model 1889 produced in 1892).

Stock has prominent tiger striping around the butt and on the right side. We are unable to check the stock's serial number as there is a small shield installed on the underside before the front barrel band, preventing the removal of the rear barrel band. The shield bears the initials "GJ".

Furniture had been previously sanded and refinished. The Swiss military ordnance stamp on the butt is gone and the stamp on the handguard is faint.

On the right side of the stock, there are a few light and mild pressure marks below the bolt release lever. On the left side of the finger groove, there are checkered marks, with associated checkered marks on the left side finger groove, likely caused by a vise or similar device to hold the stock. Light to mild pressure marks on the right side of the finger groove. On the left side of the stock, there is a fair pressure mark to the left of the finger groove that extends up to the handguard. On the underside of the stock, there is a mild scratch near the trigger guard and a gouge on the right side of the magazine plate, in front of the magazine catch. Mild pressure marks in front of the magazine plate.

All bluing had been previously refurbished. Receiver exhibits very little finish wear. There are a couple of light scratches at the rear and left edges of the receiver. The barrel is stamped with a gunsmith stamp "E MAYOR LAUSANNE". Ernest Mayor S.A. is still around today, located in Geneva, Switzerland. Rear barrel band has mild scratches. The rear barrel band screw's slot had been enlarged and is cracked. Front barrel band has light finish wear. The trigger guard and magazine have surface marks visible underneath the refinish.

Receiver is P 37 stamped, indicating privatization in 1937.
