Ursprüglich als Sebstverteidigungswaffe entwickelt setzt der Taurus 605 im Kal. .357 Magnum Standards in Performance und Zuverlässigkeit. Die Läufe sind aus korrosionsbeständigem Edelstahl gefertigt. Das Modell verfügt über einen Single/Double Action Abzug, eine starre Visierung und eine Transfer Bar für zusätzliche Sicherheit. Diese Sicherheitsvorrichtung befindet sich regelmäßig in Revolvern mit im Rahmen integriertem Schlagbolzen. Vereinfacht ausgedrückt kann der Hahn den Schlagbolzen nicht erreichen, solange nicht die Transfer Bar "zusammengeschoben" wird, um den Schlag des Hahns auf den Zündstift zu übertragen. Die Transfer Bar schiebt sich nur zwischen Hahn und Zündstift, wenn der Abzug voll durchgezogen ist. Der Taurus 605 ist bestens als Fangschusswaffe geeignet. Das Kaliber .357 Magnum bietet ausreichend Energiereserven, der Gummigriff liegt sicher in der Hand und die Abmessungen sind kompakt genug, damit die Waffe beim Führen nicht behindert.
