The book is equally aimed at collectors and shooters who want to shoot with their Chassepot rifle.
French Chassepot needle-fire rifles can be collected, but they can also be shot, just like the Prussian needle-fire rifles by Dreyse. As with the Prussian needle-fire rifles, one is also dependent on an original for Chassepot rifles, because there are no replicas. However, there are enough shootable originals available in the specialty trade. Since no WBK is required for needle-fire rifles developed before 1871, acquiring a Chassepot rifle is not an insurmountable problem.

Shooters receive in this book the necessary information on the functioning of Chassepot needle rifles, how to handle these weapons, and instructions for making ammunition suitable for sport shooting.

Collectors will find not only a wealth of information on Alphonse Chassepot, the namesake of these weapons, but also on the individual models used by the military in France, their modifications over the course of production, the manufacturers, and production figures. Additionally, some of the stamps on the weapons are explained.

Also, it goes into great detail about the historical background of the Chassepot rifles. This includes their use in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. Additionally, it provides information on the military use of modified Chassepot needle rifles in Germany after 1871.
