Die Maschinenpistole 40, wurde von 1940 bis 1944 von Erma und Steyr produziert. Die sehr führige und kompakte MP40 wurde in dieser Zeit über 1 Mio. mal hergestellt. Die nicht minder bekannten Vorgänger sind die MP36 und die MP38. Die hochwertig verarbeitete GSG MP40 im Kaliber 9mm P.A. Knall ist 'Made in Germany' und wird aus Zinkdruckguss und Stahl hergestellt.
