HANDBOOK OF GERMAN WEAPON STAMPS on Military and Service Hand Weapons 1871-2000

Joachim Görtz t and Albrecht Wacker

With this chronological guide, the reader receives a detailed overview of official stampings on handguns, accessories, and equipment of the military and police forces from the founding of the German Empire in 1871 up to the weapons of the Bundeswehr, the BGS, and the state police forces.

The authors address all still available regulations and document the stampings using various realia through around 300 photos and more than 800 individual drawings. Hereby, the collector is given a comprehensive reference work, which goes far beyond the mere interpretation of troop, acceptance, proof, revision, and ownership stamps or code signs.

It also conveys essential details on the structure of the armed forces, describes their equipment with firearms and edged weapons, and explains the respective weapon budgets. Hints on procurement and acceptance procedures over time provide insights into the system of marking handheld firearms.

Without this extensive information, assessing the authenticity and original use of a service weapon is often hardly possible, and only with well-founded expert knowledge can one avoid expensive mistakes by later "upgraded" collectibles.
