| Fusil d'assaut de la Waffenfabrick Bern, modèle WEIZE. Calibre : 5,56 mm Prototype présenté en 1978 au Groupement de l'armement par la W+F pour concurrencer le prototype présenté par SIG pour remplacer le Fass 57. 105 exemplaires de ce prototype ont été fabriqués en calibre 6,45 mm et 105 exemplaires en calibre 5,6 mm. Sur la base d'essais spécifiques réalisés dans la troupe en 1981 à Walenstadt, le DMF a décidé de limiter les nouveaux essais dans la troupe au calibre 5,56 mm exclusivement. Ce calibre permet par ailleurs l'utilisation de la munition 5,56 mm de l'OTAN. Le modèle SIG a été choisi notamment car il avait une version courte et une version longue alors que la W+F présentait une version ou l'on pouvait remplacer le canon long par un court mais cela impliquait également le changement de tout le système de visée et un nouveau tir de réglage.
