Spyderco erklärt die Verwendung des Stahls wie folgt: Klinge aus rostfreiem 8Cr13MoV-Stahl hergestellt, der in seinen Eigenschaften, Leistung und Funktion dem AUS-8 ähnelt. 8Cr13MoV-Stahl enthält sowohl Molybdän als auch Vanadium. Molybdän erhöht die Festigkeit und Härte des Stahls, Vanadium seine Verschleißfestigkeit und Zähigkeit. Carbon erhöht die Zugfestigkeit des Stahls und erhöht seine Verschleiß- und Abriebfestigkeit. Aus diesem Rezept resultiert ein Klingenstahl, der mit der Zeit und Verwendung eine scharfe Schneidkante behält.
