En 1915 le pistolet Nambu type 14 était la 4ème variante du pistolet de type A modèle 1902 conçu par Kirijo Nambu.
En 1925 le type 14 est adopté par l'armée et en 1927 par la marine.
Il fut construit à 282 000 exemplaires jusqu'en 1945 par les arsenaux Japonais.
