| 44 Caliber; fair bore, fair grips, 7.5'' barrel, Manufactured in 1858, complete with original Dragoon revolver shoulder stock. Metal finish has turned an even light gray patina overall with scattered small area of minor-light pitting. Matching serial numbers on the revolver including the wedge. The stock is not matching the revolver, marked with two serial numbers on the lower tang and buttplate, 17259 over 17260. Brass rounded trigger guard with iron backstrap, notched on the butt for the stock. Walnut grip with illegible inspector stamps on each side. Grip shows handling and very slight shrinkage, small old chipping around the bottom edges. Barrel is stamped on the top flat with the Colt's New York address, having the fixed rear sight with two folding leafs and one standing. Left side of the frame stamped "COLT'S/PATENT" over US. M sub-inspector stamps on barrel, cylinder and left rear trigger guard. The cylinder has only traces of the ranger and Indian scene. The action functions fine with slight hammer rebound. The stock is the 3rd type with hooks for the slots cut in the recoil shield. Patina on the iron matches in condition to the revolver. The wood appears to have been lightly cleaned up at some point, the inspector cartouches on each side are fairly strong. There is an old 1/2" crack on the bottom of the stock behind the lower tang. A scarce 3rd Dragoon with an estimated 1500 made for use with the shoulder stock. Antique, s/n 176xx |
