Description:
45 ACP; very good bore, good grips, 4'' barrel, Originally manufactured in 1918, this pistol has been heavily customized with a shortened slide, barrel and grip frame, even the magazine has been modified by shortening. There is very little metal finish remaining and it appears the gun was refinished at some point, leaving the markings a bit faint in some areas. The left side of the slide retains the original two-block two-line Colt's address and patent dates flanking the Rampant Colt logo, most of which are faint. The right side of the slide is stamped "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. A" the rest of the marking polished away. Lightly etched on the right side of the slide under the ejection port is "ter Haar 45 cal". The right side of the frame is marked with a legible UNITED STATES PROPERTY roll stamp over the serial number. Both sides of the frame extensions have been filed down removing the U.S. Army markings on the right side. There is a faint eagles head/S18 proof on the left side of the frame above the magazine release. The barrel is a WWII vintage Flannery manufacture. The bottom of the slide has a section of metal welded in place to lenghten and reinforce the nose. The gun is fitted with thick plain walnut grips, the left panel with a small thumb rest. The barrel bushing and return spring guide rod have been shortened as well. The metal has some dark spotting overall and scattered areas of minor pitting. A lot of work went into this modification however the finishing of the work is rather crude. Mechanically the return spring seems weak and the slide fitting needs attention. SOLD AS IS needing some work. C&R/FFL, s/n 5485xx
