| 11mm; poor bore, good stock, 27 .75'' barrel, French Gendarmarie short rifle, converted from a Chassepot MLE 1866 rifle using a Gras 1874 bolt firing system instead of the needle fire system of the Chassepot. The left side of the receiver is marked MANUFACTURE D'ARMES/ST ETIENNE and MLE 1866-74, with the designation M80 stamped on the side flat. The right side of the barrel, below the rear sight, is stamped with conversion dates S.1874 and S.1876. Blue metal finish. Walnut stock held with three spring kept brass bands. The stock retains the small red MA marked plug on the right side of the butt. Mis-matched serial number parts. Complete with an original clearing rod. The metal finish is worn with spotting and some surface rust and the wood has may dings and dents. Complete and mechanically fine. The bore has strong rifling however has rust and pitting throughout.
