| 11mm; 20% blue, excellent bore, fair stock, 31'' barrel, This rifle has been converted to fire metal cartridges instead of the paper cartridge. The barrel on this rifle is marked on barrel with, '1868', on right diagonal, 'P.G', and an encircled, 'Crown/S' and 'M' on the left diagonal, s/n on left flat. The receiver is marked with the name of a very rare contractor who produce these rifles, CAHEN - LYON et Cie. / Glisenti a Brescia, as well as with MLE 1866. Cahen-Lyon was a private firm that the French government contracted to meet the increased demand while the new factory at St-Etienne was being completed. Cahen-Lyon, in turn, subcontracted to various European manufacturers, which were noted in script on the receiver. The s/n on the left side of the butt matches s/n on barrel. The metal finish has thinned with scattered freckling. The furniture has typical handling / storage wear as well as a crack on left side above the trigger. ANTIQUE., s/n 401xx |
