| 54 Caliber; good bore, very good stock, 8 1/2'' barrel, HENRY ASTON MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL DATED 1850. THE MODEL 1842 WAS THE LAST SINGLE SHOT SMOOTHBORE PISTOL ISSUED BY THE U.S.ARMY. THIS EXAMPLE IS 1 OF 6000 PRODUCED BETWEEN 1850/52. THE BARREL AND LOCK ARE FINISHED IN THE WHITE SOMETIMES CALLED NATIONAL ARMORY BRIGHT. THE TRIGGER GUARD, BARREL BAND AND BACK STRAP ARE POLISHED BRASS. THE BARREL IS STAMPED "US/JH/P" AND THE TANG AND LOCK ARE DATED 1850. THE LOCK IS ALSO MARKED US OVER H.ASTON AND THE REAR LOCK IS MARKED "MIDDTN/CONN/1850. THE PISTOL PISTOL RETAINS ITS BRIGHT FINISH ALONG WITH CLEAR MARKINGS. THE STOCK IS SOLID WITH A FEW DINGS AND COMPRESSION DENTS. OVERALL THIS IS A VERY NICE AND WELL CARED FOR EXAMPLE. |
