| Ornate commissioned officers dirk with an 8 13/16 inch fullered blade. 13.25 inch OAL with rayskin covered handle with gold highlighted mounts, mum on each side. Tight fine braided wire wrap on the handle is snug. Scant S shaped guard is marked on the lower front with an N inside a diamond, and at the upper end with an anchor inside a mum. The blade is in good overall condition, having a small area of corrosion on the right side about 2.5 inches from the tip. There are a few nicks on the blades edge and a few on the edges of the spine. The wooden scabbard has what appears to be a fish skin covering with ornate gold plated fittings decorated with mums and leaves. The catch functions well and secures the blade as it should. Some wear on the fish skin surface. Overall a very nice vintage example. |
