| 54 Caliber; good bore, good stock, 24.25'' barrel, Manufactured c.1843-1846 for the U.S. Navy. Browned finish rifled round barrel with integral front sight on upper band. Brass mounted walnut stock with visible inspector cartouches on the left side. Casehardened lockplate is marked "N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD/MASS" and at the rear "Wm JENKS". Stamped on top of the barrel knox "Wm JENKS", "USN / RC / P / 1845". The stock is in overall good condition however there is a crack on the right side running from the end of the upper tang down to the rear of the lockplate. Mecahnically fine. The bore is bright and strong, shows some light corrosion along the the rifling grooves. Antique. |
