Description:
8mm Mauser; 80% blue, Good bore, good stock, 23.5'' barrel, Modified to resemble a late war swept back mount/ZF4 snipers rifle. J.P. Sauer & Sohn manufacture, stamped with the companies code ce on top of the recevier ring and with the date code 44. Original blue finish, mounted in a laminated stock and handguard. The rifle has the correct proofs and military acceptance marks on the metal components. Matching numbers, although the upper band appears to have been re-numbered to match. The trigger guard is a stamped variation with a milled floorplate. The follower is a replacement which is Imperial proofed. The stock and handguard are mis-matched, the stock having a faint number applied on the left side of the butt along the cupped smooth buttplate. The recoil lug has been cleaned bright. Includes the attached leather sling, cleaning rod and front sight hood. This rifle has been fitted with a reproduction swept back mount and base, with an original ZF4 scope fitted. The ring bands, sliding sun shade and rubber eye piece are reproduction as well. The mount has been numbered to match the rifle. The scope is marked on the left side Gw ZF4 dow (triangle) with a number 8862. The scope has good optics, being a bit cloudy and yellowed. The rifles metal finish shows thinning overall. The wood has scattered small dings and scuffs. The top edges of the back of the rear sgiht base have had some filing done on the top and corners. Mechanicallly fine, the bore is strong with a tight muzzle, showing some frost in the grooves. The scope seems to lock up a bit off center, but overall a good and well put together example of a late war sniper set-up, at a small percentage of the cost of an original. C&R/FFL, s/n 76xxc
