Description:
45-90 CAL; 99% blue, excellent bore, excellent stock, 26'' barrel, An exceptional condition specially featured rifle complete with factory letter. Manufactured c.1903. Original blued finish, casehardened frame and varnish finished checkered walnut stock. Original silver blade front sight and buckhorn rear sight. Special features include the half round/half octagon barrel, pistol grip stock, half tube magazine and takedown feature. The top flat of the barrel is marked "MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED. OCT. 11, 1887. APRIL 2, 1889. AUGUST 1. 1893.". Caliber designation on top of the barrels chamber "45-90". The top of the frame is stamped "MARLIN SAFETY". The upper receiver tang is stamped "MODEL / 1895.". And over the left side barrel flat is stamped "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL". Original hard rubber buttplate in excellent condition. The factory letter lists the features of the rifle with a ship date of Sept. 19, 1906. Additionally, consignor notes state that the rifle was purchased by the mayor of Porvoo, near Helsinki in Finland in the early part of the last century and the rifle was purchased from this mayors heirs. The metal finish shows virtually no distinguishable wear, having a couple minor handling scratches and a tiny nick on the left side of the magazine tube. The wood has a few scattered very minor handling marks, with a series of nicks on the bottom of the stocks toe area. Wood to metal fit is near perfect. The case color on the frame is vivid, having some slight thinning of color on the lever. The bore is bright and sharp and the action is clean internally. Included with this rifle is a set of vintage IDEAL reloading tools, Ideal No.6 in original box. A metal tin with a match box and small cloth bag with five WRA.Co. brass 45-90 fired and de-primed shell casings. Another tin box with a leather 3/4" sling. And an Ideal 12Ga loader. These items accompanied the rifle when purchased years ago. I'd feel confident to say that those 5 fired casings were the only 5 rounds fired in this rifle. A beautiful example of a special featured large frame Marlin and extremely rare in this condition. We imported this rifle from Finland and it bears our import mark., s/n 3382xx
