| 8mm Mauser; fair bore, good stock, 28.75'' barrel, German GEW 98 Mauser rifle reworked by the Turkish Ankara arsenal to an M1938 pattern rifle. The original metal finish has worn to light brown patina overall, mounted in a dark oil soaked walnut stock and handguard. The receiver retains the original German WW1 era Imperial proofs and acceptance marks as does the bolt, with faint illegible original manufacturer markings and date on top of the receiver ring, and faint GEW 98 on the left side. Non-matching except the rear sight. The Turkish markings are stamped on top of the receiver ring around the crescent moon and star "T C/AS FA/ANK ARA/1937. NAC import markings appear over the left side of the receiver ring. Cleaning rod present. Mechanically fine. The bore has a tight muzzle, showing wear and darkness throughout. C&R/FFL, s/n 24xx |
