| 44-40 Winchester; fair bore, fair grips, 5'' barrel, Late production, c.1880 with square butt and topstrap. 50% factory nickel finish. Custom hand engraved with floral and punch dot patterns, dove scene on the left frame. Genuine pearl grips appear original to the gun. Matching assembly numbers on frame, barrel and cylinder. Stamped in a single line on top of the barrel "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. NEW YORK, U.S.A." followed by patent dates from 1874-1877. The left side of the barrel is stamped with the Hopkins & Allen Norwich CT markings. Caliber designation "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873" marked on the left side of the frame. Barrel shortened to 5 1/2 inches with a fixed flat blade. Light rusting in areas of finish loss with some scattered minor pitting. Two replaced screws on the left frame. The action functions however the cylinder stop is worn. Bore has strong rifling with pitting throughout. Antqiue, s/n 157xx |
