Description:
44-40 Winchester; good bore, very good grips, 3.25'' barrel, Early production large frame single action revolver, open top frame, scooped cylinder flutes. Matching numbers, frame, cylinder and barrel. Manufactured c.1876-1880's. Birds head grip frame with original factory nickel finish and checkered hard rubber grips. Stamped on the left side of the barrel "HOPKINS & ALLEN M'F'G CO. NORWICH CONN. U.S.A." with patent dates 1874, 1875, 1876 and 1877 in two lines. Caliber designation "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873" on the right side of the frame. "MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY" stamped on the left side of the frame. Revolver retains approximately 82% nickel finish with scattered areas of fading/dull finish, worn edges with most loss on the cylinder. Some speckling in the finish with small scratches and handling marks overall. Blued trigger guard has worn mostly gray. The action functions well and the gun locks up well. The bore has light pitting throughout. Antique., s/n 7xx
