| 50 Caliber; 100% blue, like new bore, like new stock, 21.5'' barrel, Italian Pietta (Massachusetts Arms Company) Smith Carbine Civil War Percussion Replica, the bottom of the barrel’s joining lug is marked with the serial number and a proof mark. The bottom of the receiver next to this is marked with the last three digits of the serial number. The left side of the barrel housing, the left side of the receiver and the left side of the barrel shank are all marked with proofs. The left side of the receiver is also marked with a date code, “MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS,” “ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE” and “SMITH’S PATENT / JUNE 23, 1857”. The right side of the receiver is marked “CAT. 6992 - CAL 50”. The right side of the barrel is marked “BLACK POWDER ONLY – MADE IN ITALY.” The left side of the barrel is marked “F.LLI PIETTA CAT. 6992 – CAL. 50”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “NAVY ARMS Co. RIDGEFIELD N.J.” The front sight is a dovetail set blade. The rear sight is a dovetail set “V” notched blade when down. It flips up to become a sight ladder with a sliding blade. The two-piece walnut stocks have a hairline crack at the back of the upper tang. It has a straight grip, barrel band, two sling loops and a metal buttplate. The LOP measures 14 ¾" from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock is Excellent overall condition. The bore is bright, and the rifling is well defined. There is no erosion. This modern reproduction of the Smith Carbine is in Excellent condition. The rifle was made by Pietta in Italy and imported by Navy Arms. It is a unique action breaks in half to load. This is a great rifle for a Civil War collector, or anyone involved in Civil War Reenactments., s/n 28xx |
