| 44 Centerfire; fair bore, fair grips, 5.5'' barrel, Manufactured c.1875-1889. Originally in nickel finish, most has worn away, approximately 30-40% remains. Plain walnut grips, worn and may have been sanded at some point long ago, a bit undersized to the frame. The barrel has been shortened to 5 1/2". A screw has been added under the end of the ejector housing and the tip of the cylinder pin is damaged. Stamped on top of the barrel is a single line "E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A.". Original lanyard ring on the butt of the grip frame. This revolver shows heavy wear and use, the edge of the barrels muzzle rounded from years of holstering. The action function fine. The bore has strong rifling however has various levels of pitting throughout. Pitting on the sides of the grip frame under the grip panels leaving it hard to make out the serial number which appears to be 4023., s/n 40xx |
