| 44 Caliber; good bore, good grips, 8'' barrel, Ex-military issue Rremington New Army revolver with New York style engraving, finished in the white, with genuine polished bone grip, the left side with a very nicely carved Eagle with snake indicating possibly Mexican use. The butt of the grip frame has been cut with a silver oval extension either added or the piece especially made, held with two screws into the front and back strap. The brass trigger guard has been silver plated, retaining approx 75% of that finish. Parts are all marked with a US inspector initial "D". Stamped on top of the octagon barrel "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION. NEW YORK. U.S.A./NEW MODEL". These markings on the barrel have possibly been cleaned up or restamped, as they are rather sharp compared to the wear to the metal overall, especially compared to the wear and smoothing of the engraving work. The action functions well. One or two of the cylinders nipples likely replaced. The bore has strong rifling with various levels of corrosion. The grip has a few minor marks, a tiny old chip on the lower edge of the left side. Very slight shrinkage at the border with the grip frame. Antique, s/n 423xx |
