| Original Soviet Cossack Shashqua Saber complete with original wooden black laquer finished brass mounted scabbard. 31 5/8 inch blade, brass mounted ribbed wood handle, 37.25 inch OAL. Heavy brass pommel bears cast "Hammer & Sickle" and "C.C.C.P." markings and decoration. Slightly curved blade with wide blood grooves, Cyrillic markings on each side of the ricasso. The brass cap is Cryillic marked and dated 1930, that date appears on the blade as well. Leather portepee appears to be original. Overall in good condition, the blade shows signs of sharpening, grind marks around the tip end, small nicks on the edge and scattered spotting. The scabbards laquer finish shows some wear, no damage, brass with original age patina, the brass band with ring is loose fitting., |
