| 40 Caliber; fair bore, good stock, 28'' barrel, Shipping records on this Sharps rifle mention it being shipped to an unknown buyer in December of 1875, and was then sent to E.S. Harris of New York City in December of 1876. Believe the chambering is for the Sharps 40-50 bottleneck cartridge (40-1 5/8). Full ocatagon barrel with fading blue finish. Dovetailed fixed front sight with fine silver blade. R.S. Lawrence ladder rear sight. Stamped on top of the barrel "SHARPS RIFLE CO HARTFDORD CONN". Stamped on top of the chamber "CALIBER 40". Casehardened action aged mostly light grey, marked on the left side "SHARPS RIFLE CO/PAT. APR. 6, 1869". Serial numbered on top of the upper tang. Walnut stock, pewter tipped forend. Action functions well. The bore has shine and fairly strong rifling, however has spots of pitting throughout., s/n 1550xx |
