| Halmarked Silver cup engraved: Presented By Anglo-Newfoundland Steamship Co LTD Newfoundland - Owners of S.S. "Gerladine Mary" sunk by Enemy Submarine 4th August 1940. Includes a copy of a newspaper article mentioning the sinking of the Geraldine Mary. And a copy of a listing of Canadian ships sunk mentioning the Geraldine Mary. According to these articles and lists the Geraldine Mary was sunk by the German submarine U-52 off the coast of Ireland in early August 1940. Three lives were lost. The captain of the Geraldine Mary at the time, G.M Sime, survived the sinking only to be lost on one of the companys other ships later in the war. It is unknown to whom the cup was presented. Condition-Very Good, shows age with some minor tarnishing and dents along cups rim., |
