Description:
This is an interesting small lot of personal papers and items once belonging to a Corporal James R Gaebe of Nashville IL, who was a U.S. soldier during WW2. The lot includes a soft cotton web fold open pouch which has the name along with many hand written and decorated Boy Scouts information, from troop 26 in Nashville IL, with many dates from 1936-1943, along with a notation PRIVATE KEEP OUT. There is an old Phillip Morris cigarette box from the period which is in very nice condition. A red white and blue Weston cigarette lighter of the period. A black tin tube which holds many German D.R.P. marked protractor tools and fountain style pens (probably liberated in Europe during the war). A small booklet of black and white photos of large steam coal mine cranes and of a man dressed in WW1 era uniform shooting a small bolt action 22 caliber rifle (likely from his home town). A German merkbuch (notebook) with a notation that the book was purchased in Luxemburg on or about December 28, 1944, with Mr. Gaebe name and several notes about a sail aboard a ship, several address, locations while is Europe and many other notes. A booklet which appears to be both German and French, the cover says ARBEITSORDNUNG which translates to "Working Properly", it is 37 pages and mentions in one section about the proper places to smoke aboard a ship. A soft cotton web material fold open organizer which has an iron cross on one front corner (likley taken in Gemany during the war). Also there is a paper which appears to be original with an 1867 date, written with quill, and which appears to have information about a family member of Mr. Gaebe's which was of German descent. According to the consignee these items were carried with or taken while deployed in Europe during WW2.,
