| Description: |
| 44 Russian; very good bore, fair grips, 5'' barrel, Very scarce revolver with 1000 produced 1882-1883, intended especially for the Russian market. Original factory nickel finish, bright blue finish small parts and original checkered hard rubber grips. These revolvers were similar to the S&W 44 DA first models, however has lightening cuts along the sides of the frame, a stepped down cylinder at the front and a sligthly lighter profile barrel with grooved rib. The S&W address and patent markings are stamped around the cylinder as opposed to the top of the barrel as on the first model DA 44 revolvers. Original bead type front sight. The nickel finish remains at approximately 80%, with areas of flaking and spotting with minor pitting in the dark spots. The trigger and hammer retain some fading case color. A lanyard ring is installed on the butt of the grip frame which covers the serial number there. The full serial number is stamped on the left side of the grip frame under the grip panel. The cylinder is numbered and matching. The right grip is fine, the left panel has a repaired crack for most of its length. Mechanically fine and tight, the bore has sharp rifling with spots of light pitting. Accompanying this revolver is a factory letter, which gives details of the model, and states that "your handgun, with serial number 9939" (typo?) was shipped from the factory September 28, 1895 and delivered to Max Fiedler Co., St. Petersburg, Russia. Antique, s/n 98xx |
