| The M26 helmet was made at the "National Arsenal of Artillery" in Trubia, this helmet is commonly referred to as a "Con ala" which translates to "With Wings" due to its flared sides, it was distributed in 1930 and was a common sight on the battlefields during the Spanish Civil War. This example is a pre-Civil War model identified by the hollow side rivets and grey paint. These along with other helmets in service with the Spanish Army were all withdrawn in 1943 and refurbished, they had a coating of a light green paint and frontal brackets to hold the new "Franco" badges, most of the older M26's etc. had the liners replaced too. Original grey painted examples without frontal brackets are becoming hard to find. This helmet is complete, and the shell is in very good condition it is light green and has numerous paint chips showing the dark color beneath., |
