| 58 Roberts; fair bore, fair stock, 37'' barrel, Conversion by Providence Tool Company using an 1863 dated Springfield rifle musket, c.1869. Marked on the left side of the receiver "ROBERT'S PAT./JUNE 11, 1867". Over 5,000 being sold to the South Carolina militia in 1870, one of the largest users of this particular conversion. Oxidized patina on metal. Dark oil soaked walnut stock. Original buttplate, U.S. marked on the tang, with a unit marking "20/5/D.". Original sights, the rear leaf is broken. Three spring kept flat bands. Bore has shine with spots of rust throughout. Missing the ramrod. The stock has a crack on the right side of the toe, a crack on the left side flat from the rear lock screw forward to the receiver. A repaired crack from the front lock screw up to the edge of the stock, and a repaired crack from the end of the upper tang swinging down to the top of the rear lockplate. The action functions fine. Includes an original US marked bayonet, bright blade with spots of corrosion on edges and surface rusty socket. Antique, s/n 81xx |
