| good stock, 28'' barrel, This is a not commonly seen example of an early American "training gun" which was assembled by Bannermans from surplus worn out or damaged Civil War rifle muskets for boys military schools, and are sometimes called "Quaker" muskets by collectors. The barrel is wooden exept for about 6.5 inches of the barrel at the end, which is cut from a rifle musket. Iron breech. The lock is marked only SPRINGFIELD with no other markings or dates. The action does not function and was not meant to. Mounted in a walnut stock held with two bands, the upper band being similar to an M1841 rifle musket band. Iron ramrod present. Shows use and handling with spotting and oxidation on most of the metal parts. OAL 44 inches., |
