| 69 Caliber; good stock, 42'' barrel, Manufactured at Springfield Armory, dated 1818. Walnut stock, spring kept iron bands. Center of lockplate marked with the Eagle over U.S., at the rear "SPRING/FIELD/1818". 1818 date on tang. The left side of the barrel breech is inspector marked and proofed "P/eagleshead/V". Original ramrod. Metal aged patina. The stock has old shallow chipping below the trigger guard tang and a tiny old chip behind the upper tang. Wear along the barrel with a couple slivers and split on the left side. The left side of the butt has an old split and there is a small crack behind the lockplate. The lock functions well. Includes an original triangular bayonet. 16 inch blade marked "US/TA". The bayonet has some rust and pitting. |
