| 69 Caliber; poor bore, good stock, 42'' barrel, Type II M1816 musket converted to percussion c.1860. Lockplate marked with the Eagle over US at the center, and at the rear "SPRING/FIELD/1826". Barrel is stamped on the left side "P/eagleshead". Button head shaped ramrod. Walnut stock with no legible markings, 1 inch tight crack at the end of the buttplate tang, minor cracks fore and aft of the lockplate. Barrel sights added at the time of conversion. Three spring kept barrel bands. Rusty bore. Lock functions fine, a bit stiff. Metal has pitting. Includes an original bayonet with 16 inch triangular blade, marked "US" over inspector initials. The bayonet has dark rust spotting overall. |
