| Description: |
| 6.35mm; 90% blue, very good bore, excellent grips, 2.3'' barrel, Austrian Steyr pistol with a pivoting barrel. Very small and light. Mechanically, it is in excellent condition. Extremely well made. According to the barrel legend, (10) this pistol was manufactured in 1910. These were manufactured by OEWG Steyr f Chambering: 6.35mm Auto (.25acp) Length overall: 4.92" (125mm) Weight unloaded: 11.5oz (325g) Barrel: 2.24in (57mm) rifled Magazine: 6-round detachable box Originally intended for commercial sales, this is the pocket version of the Steyr-Pieper Model 1908 pistol and was built to the patents of Nicolas Pieper of Liege, Belgium. It has English proofs. This was an unusual blowback pistol with a tip-up barrel. The barrel was retained with a pivoting bolt and it was held by a thumb-latch barrel-locking mechanism. The recoil-spring rod ended in a hook engaging a lug on the slide, disengaging automatically when the breech was raised. This example has approx. 95% original blue with some finish loss on the top of the barrel. The original grips are excellent condition. The grips have the both OWG and STEYR logo. This has an original magazine. The magazine on these pistols do not remove handily and something to grab hold of would be beneficial. This weapon is designed so that it may be used as a single-shot pistol by tipping the barrel down, which disconnects the recoil spring from the slide. When the barrel is open, the slide may be pulled back to cock the hammer with a minimum of energy and then pushed forward to position again. Snapping the loaded barrel down into place hooks up the spring mechanism to permit extraction and the development of energy for closing the slide. This reportedly was a favorite pocket pistol for Austro-Hungarian Military officers and Police departments. Here is your chance to own one of these seldom encountered pistols, s/n 340xxA |
