| 36 Caliber; 60% blue, good bore, very good grips, 4.5'' barrel, Once owned by Thomas Hale, Esquire, of the 88th Regiment Connaught Rangers. Nickhamed "The Devils Own", the Connaught Rangers were an Irish line Infantry Regiment of which were formed two Battalions in 1881, the 88th and 94th. During the Crimean War of 1853-1856, Thomas Hale was an assistant doctor with the British Army at this time, and won the Victoria Cross for valour under fire. A quick internet search will bring up information on this Battalion and Thomas Hale. Copies of some interesting information on this unit and some combat history is included with this revolver. This Tranter revolver is engraved on the bottom of the trigger guard "T Hale Esqr / 88th Regt Connaught Rangers". Double action only 5-shot percussion solid frame revolver, original bright blued finish and checkered walnut one piece grip. The grip is stamped across the front bottom edge with a number not matching to the frame. Retailer engraved on the topstrap "PARKER-FIELD & SONS. 233. HIGH HOLBORN, LONDON". The left side of the frame is stamped with the Tranters Patent marking, which also appears on the loading lever. Standard crown/V black powder proofing of the period. The frame has moderate leaf and vine engraving. Mechanically in fine condition. There is finish wear. Total loss on the cylinder, with some scattered areas of minor pitting and spotting.
