| 54 Caliber; 75% blue, fair bore, fair stock, 8.5'' barrel, This is an early US Model 1842 produced by Henry Ashton of Middletown, Connecticut. Lock is dated 1847...a good Mexican American War era date. Many went on to see additional service during the American Civil War. Standard single shot percussion with 8.5" barrel in .54 caliber. Captive ramrod designed for dragoon/cavalry use is complete and intact. Lock plate is marked: US/ H. ASTON & MIDDTN / CONN / 1847. Top of barrel is stamped with US Inspector's initials JCB ‘’Very Faint” The condition of the metal has turned mostly to gray patina. The brass hardware is in good condition but has turned dark. The original brass front sight is intact. Lock is in excellent working order. The walnut stock has numerous smaller handling marks, but the wrist is cracked, starting on the left side of the backstrap around to the rear of the side lock., |
