| This is an example of the standard issue NCO sword used during the American Civil War. Marked on the left side of the ricasso "N.P. AMES/CABOTVILLE/1848" and on the right side "U.S." over inspector initials PC. 32.25 inch bright polished blade. Overall length 38.75 inches. The blade has some minor spotting with some shallow etched pitting at the tip end. Solid brass handle and guard, marked on the side of the D guard with inspector initials R.C. and J.W.R. the handle has some areas of dark spotting and retains most of its original age patina. Complete with the original brass mounted leather scabbard which remians intact and supple. The brass mounts have some dark spottng. The drag is marked with inspector initials J.P.C., |
