| 54 Caliber; fair bore, fair stock, 6'' barrel, Standard variation. Manufactured by and marked on the lockplate "N.P. AMES/SPRINGIELD/MASS" at the center, first half of these markings are illegible. At the rear of the lockplate is marked "USN/1845". Visible inspector cartouches on the left side stock flat. Brass mounted walnut stock. Patina metal with some pitting, faint P on the left side of the barrel breech area. The stock has a repaired crack on the right side at the front of the lockplate. The left side has cracks near the plate screw. Several old chips around the butt of the grip and on the bottom at the band. Rusty bolster area. The lock functions fine. The bore is rusty. Antique. |
