| Brass guard marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" on one side and serial numbered 4298 on the other. 8.5 inch bright blade, 2 inches in width. Good ribbed maple handle. Complete with a type 3 altered original leather scabbard, altered and issued with the later M1890 intrenching knife (identical knife to the M1880 with the nomenclature changed later), having the belt loop removed and a brass belt hook attached. Partial Watervliet Arsenal markings visible. Over all good condition both knife and scabbard, the knife showing signs of some light sharpening on the edge. |
