| fair bore, good stock, 8.5'' barrel, This flintlock pistol is very much similar to the U.S. issued Model 1836 pistols manufactured by Asa Waters and Robert Johnson c.1836-1846. Walnut stock, metal "in the white" now fading to an even gray patina. The lock plate is marked "WARRANTED" and has some simple engraving, scroll on the center with a dog and duck scene at the rear corner. The cock also has some simple scroll engraving. The pistol is missing the swivel for the ramrod, the rod with the gun appears to be a replacement. The stock has what appears to be old initials carved on the left side flat. The barrel is stamped over the left side "LF. / P". Speculation would be this is an M1836 pistol with the lock changed out at some point? There is some old fill work at the back edges of the lockplate. The lock is not functioning, the hammer is stuck in the cocked position. |
