| 38-56 WCF; fair bore, good stock, 26'' barrel, Manufactured in 1893. Full octagon barrel with fixed front and buckhorn rear sights, the front sight is a contemporary replacement. Full length magazine tube. Plain walnut stock with crescent butt. The top of the barrel is roll stamped in two lines "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.". The caliber designation appears on top of the barrels chamber "38-56 W.C.F.". The upper tang is marked "-Model. 1886-". The serial number is located at the end of the lower tang. Patent dates located on the lower tang "PAT. OCT. 14, 1884 / JAN. 20, 1885". The originally blued finish barrel has aged to an even light patina with areas of spotting and light pitting. The wood shows age and handling but no damage. Mechanically fine. The bore has corrosion throughout with visible rifling. Antique, s/n 746xx |
