| Description: |
| 44 Henry; 90% blue, excellent bore, very good stock, 20'' barrel, Manufactured in 1869 the 3rd variation S/N 25322. It is an 1866 Yellow Boy Saddle Ring Carbine, with a rifle trap door buttstock. The barrel has a blade front sight and V notch flip rear sight. On the left side of the rear sight is J.P. LOWER He was an old west Colorado pioneer gunsmith & firearms retailer. His store was called "Sportsmen’s Depot". He was well known in the day. He was friends of Sam Colt & Col Sharp who were makers of their respective famous firearms. He also knew Remington, Smith and Wesson, Christian Sharps and Winchester. Many famous people bought or had firearms repaired at his shop in Denver, such as Buffalo Bill Cody, Kit Carson, George and Tom Custer and many others famous and not. He was said to be the first firearms retailer west of the Mississippi back when he started out in Denver. Many of the weapons would have his name proudly displayed on the side. The blued metal finish is spotted, with thinning on the barrel bands and front sight. The bore is mirror bright, and the action works. The brass receiver is missing its dust cover, and has a saddle ring on the left side, and has few handling marks. The walnut forearm and buttstock are in very good condition with good fit to the receiver. It has a brass trap door rifle style buttplate. Very nice SRC., s/n 253xx |
