| 38-56 cal; good bore, good stock, 26'' barrel, Manufactured in 1890. 26" round barrel with full length magazine tube. Stamped on top of the barrel "-MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-". The caliber designation is located on top of the barrel chamber "38-56 W.C.F.". The receiver tang is stamped "-MODEL 1886". The trigger guard tang is stamped with the patent dates "PAT. OCT. 14, 1884. / JAN. 20. 1885" with the serial number at the end of the tang. Copper bladed fixed front sight, buckhorn style elevation adjustable rear sight is a replacement. The metal finish has turned an even light patina, with mottling on the case hardened receiver. There is some light spotting and pin prick pitting on top of the receiver and bolt. Walnut stock with crescent butt. There is some chipping in the wood around the border with the receiver tang, with a small pin repair to a small split on the left side of the tang. The wood shows age and handling. Mechanics are fine. With the exception of the rear sight and tang screws the parts appear to be the originals. The bore has fairly strong sharp rifling and shine, showing some corrosion throughout., s/n 386xx |
