| U.S. WW1 Uniform grouping of Sgt. Merril C. Langford of Walnut Illinois. Sgt. Langford served in France with Company F, 110th Infantry, 28th Division and was wounded in the Argonne Offensive of September 1918 through November of 1918 until the Armistice. This group consists of his private purhased coat and breeches, overseas cap, puttees, M1 helmet with painted on 28th Division insignia, dog tags, and a large amount of paper effects. Includes a picture postcard of him, a "Son in Service" window pennant, a history of the 28th Division, and various letters and postcards. Also a couple German buttons and rings. Most significant of the papers being the the Army telegram "Deeply Regret To Inform You That It Is Officially Reported" telegram. Research includes a copy of Sgt. Langfords discharge, obituary and statement of service card which summarizes his service. Uniform insignia includes the 28th Division shoulder patch, red discharge stripe, two gold service chevrons, Sgt. Chevron, and wounded Chevron. US 110 and Infantry F collar discs. The helmet is in Good original condition, shows use in the field with its share of ssmall dents and paint wear. The liner is there but loose. Leather chin strap is dry and broken. The uniform is in excellent clean condition, buttons intact, no sign of repairs or damage. |
