Nur wenige wissen, dass ein kurzer Lauf die Wirkung und Präzision der Munition drastisch verringert. Standardmunition ist heute für Büchsen mit einer Lauflänge von 61 cm optimiert, doch viele Läufe messen nur 50 cm. In der Praxis bedeuted das, dass die Pulverladung vor dem Austritt aus der Mündung nicht vollständig verbrennen kann, was die Lebensdauer des Schalldämpfers dramatisch verkürzt und die Wirkung der Munition reduziert.
