Description:
Swiss SIG Neuhausen Mannlicher M1893 Carbine, also known as the Cavalry Carbine, produced in 1895, in very good condition with 80% original finish. 4/5 Bore. 4/5 Stock. Stock and handguard matching serial number. Bolt matching serial number. Magazine matching serial number.
 
Furniture has been refinished with a gloss coat. On the right side of the stock there are light to mild pressure marks around the butt and grip. Long, mild pressure mark in front of the rear sling mount. Gouge found above the magazine and adjacent to the rear barrel band. On the left side of the stock there is a group of light to mild pressure marks in front of the sling opening on the butt. Mild to fair pressure marks forward of the grip. On the underside of the stock, there is a chip and a pair of gouges around the rear barrel band spring. The heel of the stock is stamped with an encircled number 1 and there are multiple light to mild pressure marks along the comb. Gouge to the left of the receiver tang. Heavy pressure mark on the left side of the handguard at the woodline 
 
Overall bluing is very good for a 125 year old carbine. Receiver has heavy finish wear on the top side at the rear. Fair finish wear and patina throughout the remainder of the receiver. Mild to fair patina on the bolt handle. Light to mild finish wear and mild patina on the rear barrel band. Fair to moderate finish wear on the handguard cap and front sight. Light finish wear on the magazine plate, trigger guard, and magazine. 
 
Receiver is P 24 stamped, indicating privatization in 1924. 
 
Includes leather sling.
 
Antique; no import engraving.

SHAKO INFORMATION
 
Shako has a white horsehair hackle on top. Badge on the front has a number 11 at the center for Squadron 11. Inner leather lining is intact but worn. One of the two rivets on the left side is missing. Outer felt is mildly worn. The inside is marked with the original dealer information "Guiger Payerne 1910".
 
 
 
UNIFORM INFORMATION
 
Uniform set is a correct uniform set of a Corporal in Mitrailleusen-Compagnie III
 
Blue overcoat is made of heavy wool. Various holes in the coat, likely from moths. Multiple holes around the middle of the collar. Linen lining has discoloration and light staining. 
 
Black uniform jacket features red piping, red collar, and stripes on the arms that indicate a Corporal. Nickel-plated epaulettes with red accents and bands. There are multiple light stains on the inner linen lining. Collar is discolored along the top edge and the stitching has worn away at the middle of the collar. Holes on the cuffs likely caused by moths.
 
Wool trousers are missing one of the front buttons. There are a couple of holes on the legs and one large hole on the left leg by the back of the knee. Red piping down the sides and stirrup loops at each leg opening. Linen lined.
 
Identification tag (early "dog tag") is made of Galalith (a type of plastic) and indicates that the named Corporal was part of Mitrailleusen-Compagnie III.
 
 
 
SWORD INFORMATION
 
The sword manufacturer is impossible to read as the stamp is too faint.  
 
Blade is stamped on the ricasso with number "14131" and "91" is stamped underneath the blade number.
 
Light scratches around the tip of the blade and areas of light pitting throughout the blade. Leather grip has two small holes, likely caused by insects. Spots from light pitting throughout the guard. 
 
Sheath has multiple impact marks on the right side. There is a small crack on the edge towards the tip.
 
Sword has a blade length of 878mm and overall length of 1020mm.
 
 
 
PHOTO INFORMATION
 
Framed photograph of Mitrailleusen-Compagnie III (Machinegun Company III), dated 1905. Measures 15.75" x 13.25". The frame itself is worn, separating at the upper left corner, and there are multiple exposed nail heads on the backside. The photograph shows 19 soldiers of Machinegun Company III posing behind their Maxim Gun.
