Schweizer Dolch Mosaikdamast

Already in the 15th and 16th centuries, the Swiss dagger was used as a common weapon of the Swiss pikemen and often occupied an intermediate position between dagger and sword due to its blade length. The dagger, also known as Baselard, usually served as a secondary weapon and was not typically issued as an equipment item, but had to be procured privately by the soldiers.

Following the exceptional torsion damast is now the similarly very complex to produce mosaic damast, which also belongs to the royal class of damascus forging and makes the impressive dagger an absolute showpiece in any knife collection. Unlike conventional damascus, no layers are created in the production of mosaic damascus, but complex damascus bars are forged into a mosaic in an elaborate and very complicated process by hand. For this, the initially damascus package consisting of layers stacked on top of each other is split and reassembled in a shifted manner, so that a unique mosaic pattern appears on the ends of the bar. The damascus is then split again and the complex process is repeated several times, with the resulting pattern becoming finer and more unique with each step. The individual packages are finally stacked and forged in the shape of a quadrilateral, so that the front sides of the individual parts form a new surface. In this process, the forging temperature, deformation, deformation rate, and the previous work steps must be optimally coordinated. This extremely demanding forging process, which only a few damascus smiths master, is executed to perfection for our Swiss dagger by Chad Nichols.

The double-edged, pointed dagger blade already featured a diamond-shaped cross-section in historical models, as this construction proved to be extremely stable and effective. Characteristic of the Swiss dagger is the design of the handguard and the pommel. The extraordinary, curved shape can be traced back to the early 13th century and is also found in the authentic design of the handcrafted replica made by us. The shimmering dark handle made of hand-selected, certified imported ebony is framed by the high-gloss polished pommel and the handguard, forming a perfect unit with the stainless blade.

The specially designed and hand-sewn, ornate leather sheath enhances the exclusivity of this sought-after collector's piece. Delivery includes an individual serial number in a noble wooden box and an authenticity certificate. Handcrafted in the Böker Knife Manufactory Solingen and strictly limited worldwide to 500 copies.
