| Knight's Armament est un prestigieux fabricant de carabines et fusils de la famille AR15. Eugene Stoner en personne (le créateur de l'AR10 et par extension de la famille AR15/M16/M4) a rejoint Knight's Armament pendant les dernières années de sa carrière pour finaliser sa création sous la forme du SR15, du SR16 et du SR25 (devenu le M110 adopté par l'armée américaine). Les initiales "SR" signifient "Stoner Rifle". Le SR15 est la version civile du SR16. Il comporte de nombreuses améliorations destinées à faire perdurer cette plate-forme au 21ème siècle. L'arme comporte des organes de contrôle ambidextres (arrêtoir de culasse et poussoir de chargeur), le levier d'armement étant déjà ambidextre sur ce type d'arme. Pour rappel, le déflecteur de douille situé sur la boîte de culasse d'un AR15/M16 a été conçu pour que l'arme soit utilisable par un gaucher sans aucune gêne. Le garde-main flottant, très particulier, confère à l'ensemble supérieur la rigidité d'un système monolithique.
