| Description: |
| 577 caliber; fair bore, good stock, 36.75'' barrel, Conversion adopted as standard by the British in 1866, using existing P.1853 rifle muskets. Lock is maker marked "BARNETT / LONDON". Stocks left side flat is stamped at the rear "C. ROSE". Various British proofs are located on the left side of the barrel and breech. Top of the hinged breech is stamped "SNIDER'S/PATENT" and both the top of the chamber and the breechbolt are stamped with an arrow through S mark. Metal is rusty with areas of pitting and oxidation. Brass trigger guard and buttplate. Square tipped cleaning rod. Ladder rear sight. The rear lockplate screw appears to be broken as it will not snug up. The stock is in good overall condition with no major dings, dents or damage. Bore has strong rifling with rusting throughout. The action functions well. Includes a fring pin protector with brass chain, which is not attached to the lower swivel as it should be. Also includes an original bayonet, marked "WE" on top of the blade near the shank. The bayonet is rusty with some pitting and is missing the screw for the locking ring. Antique. |
